Little Boy Makes the Most of This Open Garage Door, And The Dog Who Wags There.

When Hollie Mallet installed a security camera in her garage, she had hoped to thwart the efforts of would-be thieves. It proved no match for what was stolen day-after-day right from under her nose, and the nose of her dog, Dutchess.

Hugs, from a little boy down the street.

While reviewing the footage one afternoon, she saw a young boy quickly approach and enter the garage, making a beeline right for Duchess. He then gave her a friendly squeeze and, just as quickly, returned to his bike and on his merry way. Further review of the footage revealed that the boy came on several occasions, sometimes playing fetch with the dog, always in short bursts.

Duchess loved the attention, but stayed put, an underground fence protecting her from the busy road on which the house sits. Mallet, a long-term resident of the small community of Pierre Part, Louisiana, did not know the boy or his family and set to Facebook for help. “Attention neighbors,” she posted on her Facebook page with the surveillance video. “Anyone know who this sweet little boy is? I’d like to tell him he’s welcome to stay and play, she loves the attention!”

The interloper, Josh, and the Mallet were soon united, and now Josh has a steady friend in Duchess, who provided comfort to him during the loss of his family’s dog.

While we would never advise leaving your garage door wide open, we can perhaps suggest that it’s a good idea to leave your heart open a bit. You never know just what—or who—may wander in and give you a much-needed squeeze.
